The Condor 3-Day Assault Pack is the answer to the question of which bug out bag you should get. If you are anything like me then when it comes to field equipment you want military durability and this pack delivers. Typical of Condor products, everything about this bag speaks of quality and dependability.
I picked up this bag because my drive to work has changed from a 22 mile day to a 100 mile day, and I needed a bigger bag to allow for the extra gear to compensate for the longer potential walk home. I scoured the web looking for just the right bag. I am a big fan of Maxpedition, and I gave serious consideration to the Xantha pack, but while a fine pack, it was too small for my needs, with the Condor pack holding much more.
Available in Black, Tan, Olive Drab, A-Tacs, Multicam, and A-Tacs FG.
My last pack held 1800 cubic inches of space, though I had to carry all of the weight on my shoulders. The Condor 3-Day Assault Pack holds 3038 cubic inches, and does so surprisingly well. I was really curious how large this bag was going to be, and whether or not I would be able to manage the weight of it when full. As you can see, the bag fills out nicely and distributes its weight back onto your hips where it belongs. For this photo, the pack is loaded with 30 pounds of gear.
I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to take the time to fit the straps to your shape and size. Properly adjusting the straps (along with good packing) will transition nearly the entire weight of the pack off of your shoulders and onto your hip, making it much easier to carry, especially for long periods.
Integrated Strap Management
The Condor 3-Day Assault Pack comes with integrated strap management. This means no-more floppy straps hanging all over the place and making noise. One thing I don’t miss about my Army days, was taping all of the straps on my ruck and LBE for noise discipline. The integrated velcro system on this pack makes managing your excess strap lengths a snap! Using it is easy, you just open the velcro wide so that the two ends of the velcro strap splay out horizontally against the strap and then just fold the strap end over and over until it wraps up tightly against the buckle, like you see in the picture.
Pockets and Compression Straps
This is one seriously squared away back pack. The large inner pocket has four compression straps running the length and width of the pocket to help you keep your gear organized, and two internal pockets that are great for storing all of your little essentials. The top one of these pockets is ideal for storing toiletries. Then the outer pocket also has additional organizers, and is itself topped with yet another outer pocket. Maybe these pictures will help illustrate.
One very convenient feature of any pack that weighs more than a few pounds is an integrated carry handle. The Condor 3-Day Assault Pack has three! One on each side, and one on top which can also serve as a drag handle. With thirty plus pounds of gear in your pack, these solid, heavy duty carry straps will be a huge benefit when transferring the pack from vehicles, or just carrying it into the house. I use this simple feature every time I use the pack. The only drawback to the side handles is that, while necessary and a great feature, the space they consume could have been used for more molle attachment space.
Customer Reviews and Scores
Today there are over 700 reviews for this bag on Amazon and it is running an average of 4.6 out of 5. If this article wasn’t enough for you, those numbers speak for themselves. While the vast majority of the Amazon reviews are positive, one gentleman did have a problem getting the shoulder straps adjusted to fit him. As you can see from my picture above, I did not have that issue, and I could find no other complaints of that nature on Amazon either. A few of the reviewers complained about poor quality stitching and zippers. Because of those reviews I went over the zippers and stitches with a fine tooth comb and I could find no signs of poor craftsmanship.
By far, the majority of reviews on Amazon sing about how well made, durable, and well designed this bag is. I couldn’t agree more.
